Reverse ofVolume: This sculpture by Yasuaki Onishi for Rice University’s Art Gallery consists of plastic sheeting and hot glue dyed black. The artist shaped the sculpture by draping the plastic over stacked cardboard boxes, then attaching the sheet to the ceiling and removing the boxes. This created the gorgeous mountainous sculpture seen above. Onishi calls this process ‘casting the invisible’.
